The Healing of Humanity

In a world awash with intolerance, ethno-linguistic rivalries, racism, fundamentalism and terrorism, we believe [the Milestones Project’s] call ‘to live together with one another in peace as good neighbors’ could not be more timely.
Is hate necessary?
Of course it isn’t. It is only ignorance that divides us into “us? and “them.? It is fear of those who are different that breeds inhumanity and war.
We cannot simply wait and hope for fear and hatred to go away. We must banish hatred if we are to make our world safe.
For beneath our business suits and burkas, beneath our skins of white and brown, beyond the beliefs and traditions we honor when we bow our heads in prayer, we are a single people, all striving for joy and meaning in an unpredictable world. When we can replace our fear of those who are different with a sense of our shared humanity, we will safeguard our planet from hatred and war.
That is the purpose of the Milestones Project.
This is a photographic tribute to our shared humanity.
This is about healing divisiveness through individual action.
But photographs alone cannot heal the world’s divisions.
Healing requires action.
The Milestones Project is the recipient of the United Nations Global Tolerance Award.
